Your Cuzama Mayapan adventure day trip begins in your Mérida hotel, where one of our guides will pick you up and transfer you to the arqueological site of Mayapan, which is considered the last great Mayan city.
At Mayapan you will learn about the magnificent structures, which are similar to Chichen Itza. Its main pyramid strongly resembles to the Kukulkan Castle. The Mayan word 'Mayapan' means 'standard for the Maya people' and it was supposedly founded by the legendary Kukulcan in the early XI century.
Over the yars, one can still admire the detailed art created by the inhabitants of the city. The lower part of one of the temples has some detailed paintings that still retain their original colors.
After the tour through Mayapan mayan ruins we head off to Cuzama, a charming yucatecan town where you will see the local Mayan people riding their tricycles, their main mean of transportation. There you will witness how the ancient Hacienda trucks formerly used to transport sisal leaves are now used for people’s transportation.
These trucks are wagons pulled by horses along the rail and will transport you to the Cenotes in the Mayan jungle. The Cenotes are sinkholes or underground rivers located in caverns.they are very common in the Yucatan Peninsula. Each cenote is different and unique. We will start with cenote "Chelentun", with blue torquise clear water and the only one in the tour with a shallow zone. The vault of the cenote is tunnel like and to access the water level we have to descend with a perfectly safe wooden stair about 20 meters among plants and trees. The second and deeper cenote "Chansinicchee" is perfect to jump to water from the vault and practice scuba diving. Finally "Bolonchoojol" cenote considered one of the most beautiful in Yucatan. The sunrays filtered from the top make the water turn in colors from turquoise to emerald green, giving a touch of mysticism.
The Cuzama Mayapan excursion comes to an end when you taste the Yucatan flavors in a typical Yucatecan lunch.
