Guadelajara is the capital of Jalisco and located in the center of Mexico. It has one world heritage site called Hospicio Cabanas which is one of the oldest and largest hospital complexes in Latin America. Guadelajara is both a colonial city with lots of history and a modern, bustling city with a great infrastructure since it has the second largest economy in Mexico. It boasts a wonderful museum constructed in the 1800’s and originally used as a seminary. Mariachi originated here and you are still able to see many cultural events such as mariachi bands near the historical center. Contact us today for more information about Guadelajara! Things to see and do in Guadalajara: Centro Historico – Contains many sites such as the Guadalajara Cathedral, many plazas, gardens and buildings surround the cathedral such as the Palacio de Gobierno which is the historical center of the state of Jalisco. There is also a museum, market and the World Heritage Site of Hospicio Cabanas, explained above. Degollado Theatre – A neoclassical style theater built in 1866 that houses the Orchestra of Guadalajara. A beautiful theater and there is usually a concert or event going on during the weekend to enjoy it. Barranca de Obliatos – Located on the edge of downtown this is the forested gorge of the River Lerma-Santiago, a beautiful site. The Town of Tequila – A must do when visiting Guadelajara is to take a side trip to the town of Tequila, located only 37 miles away. There are more than 30 tequila distilleries here including Jose Cuervo! Guadalajara Zoo – A modern zoo with safari ride and tropical forest. Great for families! Bullfights – A traditional past time in Guadelajara and take place every Sunday at 4:30pm. Plaza de los Mariachis – A small plaza where you will find mariachi bands ready to serenade you for a small fee.
