If you're more interested in culture and experiencing Mexico with locals you have many options.  Merida is located in the heart of the yucatan and a wonderful place to spend 3-4 days.  Many tourists use it as a starting point to visit other Mayan sites in the area such as Uxmal or the Puuc Route.  There are many other colonial towns that have managed to retain their cultural endearments.  Some of our favorites are Oaxaca, Queretaro, Guadalajara

.

Mexico has amazing beaches if you're the type who likes to relax with a good book and some sand on your vacation.  Places like Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun

all have large tourist infrastructure and are easily accessible from anywhere in the world.

Palenque
Palenque

Palenque is a Mayan city located in south west Mexico in the state of Chiapas.  It is not as large as other sites, but its architecture, sculpture and carvings make it a favorite of many people.  If you are visiting Chiapas, which is a wonderful state full of waterfalls and mountains, you must visit Palenque.  It is not as visited as sites such as Chichen Itza so it is not as crowded.  The site is still being excavated so new ruins are being discovered all the time; it is one of the most studied and written about Mayan sites.  We can help you get to Palenque and plan a wonderful excursion to this pristine site!

Things to see and do in Palenque:

Ruins – The ruins are the main attraction and well worth the visit.  The main and most iconic building is The Palace, which has interesting architecture that includes a tower.  Other buildings include Templo del Sol, Templo de la Cruz and Templo de la Cruz Foliada.

Museum – Palenque also has a wonderful museum with many artifacts and reproductions from the site.

Waterfalls – There are two waterfalls near Palenque that are worth the visit, Misol Ha and Agua Azul.

Shopping – There are usually local vendors selling authentic Mayan handicrafts in Palenque
