ITINERARY

Sotuta de Peón is one of the few live Haciendas in Yucatan where the agave plant is still manufactured into a finished product. If you come to Mérida you must include this trip!

This hacienda is the only one in the Yucatan where the agave is currently still worked by local people and shown to tourists as an attraction. You will have a window to the past as you travel to ancient times where the so called "green gold" was the main industry in Yucatan.

We leave merida into the jungle and our tour begins in the halls of  the main building of the Hacienda, where the former owner lived and which still houses original furniture and pictures.  The guide will explain the history and afterward you will view the manufacturing process and workers.  To get to the cenote we will ride a wagon on train tracks pulled by a horse. On the way you can see the agave plantations and we will stop to visit a typical Mayan house where a grandfather will tell us about his lifestyle.  Then you'll arrive at the Cenote Dzul-Ha where you can swim for a while.

In the afternoon we’ll return you to your Mérida hotel.
