Cenotes are incredible geological formations only found in the Yucatan Peninsula. They are freshwater sinkholes or caves with fresh water. The Mayan people thought of them as sacred and each village had different ceremonies for their cenotes. For example in Chichen Itza, a sacred cenote was used for sacrifices as Mayan people believed that these sinkholes were also portals into the afterlife. Other cenotes were used for drinking... |

Uxmal and Kabah By Lindy C. This weekend we went on an excursion to Uxmal, Mexico which is a historical site full of Mayan ruins. We had a wonderful guide who was very knowledgeable, spoke English very well and was able to answer all of our questions.
