Izamal Tour From Merida
ITINERARY
Right in the middle of the peninsula is Izamal, a place with a lot of history and culture. Its name means "dew of heaven," and it is a small village near the city of Merida. This city is teeming with history as you will see along its streets, it was a Spanish city built on historical Mayan remains.
Our tour begins early in the morning when we pick you up at your hotel in Mérida. We'll visit historic places in Izamal such as the Convent of San Antonio de Padua, built by the Franciscans in The Yucatan and where Pope John Paul II once visited and held mass for the community. Since his visit the town has conserved the Vatican colors of yellow and white in its buildings. Izamal is considered one of the most religious places in the country. Later we will visit the 5 pyramids located around the town where you can see some remains of the ancient Mayan city that was destroyed when evangelism began. The tour around the town will be in a Calesa; a typical carriage during colonial times.
In the afternoon we will drop you off at your hotel in Merida.
