Spend 2 full weeks in the southern part of Mexico. Your journey starts in Mexico City and continues through Oaxaca State, Chiapas and its enchanting San Cristobal de las Casas, the jungle of Palenque, and the Yucatan Peninsula.
Day 1: Travel to Mexico
Welcome to Mexico! Upon arrival in Mexico City we are met by our Adventures Mexico tour guide and then transferred to our hotel. Dinner included.
Day 2: DF - Basilica de Guadalupe -Teotihuacan - DF
After breakfast we will have a guided visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe . After lunch a short drive takes us to the ancient ruins and pyramids of Teotihuacan, City of the Gods. This is the most visited archaeological site in Mexico. Dinner and overnight in Mexico City. Breakfast and dinner.
Day 3: DF- Museo de Antropologia - City Tour - DF
After breakfast, we will visit the National Museum of Anthropology, one of the finest anthropology museums in the world. We will learn about the ancient cultures of Mexico and we will have a walking tour of the city which includes the Zocalo (or Plaza de la Constitucion), the main square of the city, the National Palace, the Catedral Metropolitana and the Palace of Fine Arts. The rest of the day is at leasure to enjoy on own. Breakfast and dinner.
Day 4: DF- Castillo de chapultepec - Oaxaca
Right after breakfast, we will visit the Chapultepec Castle, a icon of our history, it is a construction from the end of the virreinal period. We will take lunch on our own and then we continue by coach to Oaxaca city and overnight. Breakfast and dinner.
Day 5: Oaxaca - Monte Alban- City Tour
In the morning we will take the breakfast and then we board our coach for today's adventure to Monte Alban, which preserved testimonies of one thousand five hundred years of this empire and reached its peak in approximately 800 AD. Of particular note are the Grand Plaza, the Ball Game Court, the Building of the Dancers and Tomb 7. Then we return to Oaxaca city and take our lunch as a group, after that we will enjoy a walking tour around the main square visiting the Cathedral, Zocalo, Alameda, theater Macedonio Alcala and the impressive Santo Domingo Church. Then we will have a guided tour of the Regional Museum located at the Santo Domingo complex. We also visit the 20 de Noviembre market. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the colonial city of Oaxaca on your own. Breakfast and lunch.
Day 6: Oaxaca - Tule - Mitla - San Cristobal de las Casas
After breakfast, we will be visiting at the village of Santa Maria del Tule where we will visit one of the most famous trees in Mexico: the Tule tree is one of the world's largest and oldest trees: 53 meters round, 41 meters tall and over 2000 years old. Then we'll have a guided visit of Mitla, famous for the fineness of its many geometric mosaics decorating the palace walls. After that, we continue to San Cristobal de las Casas for overnight. Breakfast and dinner.
Day 7: San Cristobal de las Casas - Chiapa de Corzo - Canyon del Sumidero - City Tour
Today we'll visit Sumidero Canyon where we will have a boat trip. We'll try to find exotic birds and if we're lucky we will point out a couple of crocodiles. Then we'll visit Chiapa de Corzo, a charming village founded in 1528 by Francisco de Mazariegos and its colonial fountain on Mudejar style built in the second half of century. We'll have lunch on our own, and finally we'll have a guided walking tour of San Cristobal. We'll visit the Main Plaza or Zocalo and walk along cobbled stone streets to find the Santo Domingo Church and the colorful indigenous markets. This charming city with its colonial buildings is one of Mexico's favorites. Breakfast and dinner.
Day 8: San Cristobal de las Casas - San Juan Chamula - Palenque
Today we will head to San Juan Chamula and Zinancantan, two very interesting Tzotzil Maya villages that still have their unique cultural identity. You'll feel a magical atmosphere at these villages. A fter the visit, we'll continue to Palenque and overnight. Breakfast and dinner.
Day 9: Palenque - Campeche
Today we will have a guided visit of Palenque; this place is a striking testimony to create that perfect balance between nature and architecture. Then, we travel to Campeche, visit the harbour of Campeche, a colonial gem of architecture and walk the ramparts of its mighty fortress. From the highest of San Miguel Fort, enjoy a beautiful view of the bay of Campeche and overnight. Breakfast and dinner.
Day 10: Campeche - Merida - City Tour
In the morning we will take breakfast in the hotel and then we'll travel by coach to Merida. There we will have a city tour around the main square where we'll visit the Governor's Palace, The Cathedral (the oldest one in America) the art room; continue strolling down the Paseo de Montejo's Blvd to view its great mansions from last century. Overnight in Merida. Breakfast and lunch.
Day 11: Merida - Loltun - Uxmal - Merida
In the morning after breakfast, we will go to Loltun, a cave in the Yucatan approximately 5km long. The cave contains paintings attributed to the Mayas civilization from the Late Preclassic Era. Then, we'll go to the Mayan archaeological site of Uxmal, the "three times built city". At Uxmal we will visit the 115 feet high Pyramid of the Magician and the impressive Governor's house, a wonder of the ancient world for its precision and architectonic beauty. Breakfast and dinner.
Day 12: Merida - Celestun - Merida
After Breakfast, we will prepare to board the coach and go toward Celestun, home of one of the largest settlement of the Pink Flamingos on the continent. To visit them, we take a boat tour and will learn about the importance of mangroves in the region. Then, the rest of the day is at leisure. Breakfast and dinner.
Day 13: Merida - Chichen Itza - Cancun
We continue our journey with a visit to the famous site of Chichen Itza. It's a big place and we must walk a lot. This important center combines majesty and nature. A guide will explain the splendid Castle, an imposing example of the immense depth of the Mayas' knowledge of the cosmos, math and science. We will visit the biggest ball game court of the Mayan world. We continue to Cancun for overnight. Breakfast and Lunch
Day 14: Return Home
We are transferred to the Cancun airport this morning and board our homebound flight. We return with last memories of exotic land.
