How does Celestun Tour work?
We pick you up very early in the morning and drive you to Celestun, around 2 hours away from Merida.
Celestun Tour is one of the trips you can't miss when visiting Merida. It's a small fishermen village located only 90 km (56 miles) away from Merida in the Gulf of Mexico Coast, with a vast collection of ecosystems including beautiful beaches, a lively estuary, and a haunting mangrove forest, amongst others.
Thus, it holds a super diverse fauna crowned by the pink caribbean flamingo.
The main part of the trip is a boat tour along the “Ria” (estuary) where you will see pelicans, storks, egrets, ibis and other exotic birds like the Flamingoes.
During the tour, you will go through a natural mangrove tunnel for one of the most exclusive sights, a petrified forest with white mangrove "petenes" (hardwood islands surrounded by wetlands, located only in Cuba, South Florida and Yucatan).
Finally you'll get to visit and swim in a "ojo de agua" (submarine spring) of fresh water in the middle of the estuary!
The End of the trip
After a long and tiring day, we will take you back to Merida for relaxing and getting ready for your next adventure!
Ride a boat through a lively estuary, and dip in a fresh water submarine spring!
