Step into the soul of the Yucatan with an itinerary that balances academic discovery, cultural immersion, and social impact. This 9-day journey is meticulously designed for school groups who wish to do more than just see the sights. By living in homestays, collaborating with local elementary schools, and participating in vital reforestation and bird-watching conservation projects in Ek Balam, students will develop a profound connection to the Mayan people. From the grandeur of Chichén Itzá to the rhythmic steps of Jarana dance, this is a masterclass in global citizenship and cultural empathy.
Arrival at Cancun and private transfer to Mérida. Students are welcomed by their local host families, beginning their homestay immersion. This evening features a family dinner to establish bonds and practice Spanish in an authentic setting.
A full day dedicated to the Celestún Biosphere Reserve. Students will board boats to observe the pink flamingo colonies and navigate the mangrove tunnels. The day focuses on coastal conservation and the delicate balance of the peninsula's wetlands.
Exploration of Uxmal, focusing on Puuc architectural style and Mayan water systems. We visit the Chocolate Museum to understand the ritual and economic importance of cacao, followed by a lunch at the Uxmal Resort Maya overlooking the ruins.
Our exploration begins at the Remate de Paseo de Montejo, the gateway to Mérida's most iconic boulevard, for a City Tour focused on the evolution of Yucatecan identity. From there, we transition to the heart of the local economy with a sensory visit to the Lucas de Gálvez Market, where students interact with vendors to learn about regional produce and biodiversity. The day concludes with a hands-on Piñata Workshop, an essential element of Mexican celebrations, where students apply their creativity while learning about the history and symbolism behind this vibrant tradition.
We travel to Sinanché to visit a traditional Meliponario. Students learn about the stingless Melipona bee, its medicinal honey, and its sacred role in Mayan culture. In the afternoon, the energy shifts with a high-energy Salsa Class, learning the steps that connect Mexico to the wider Caribbean.
Time to say Goodbye to our host family in Mérida and head to Chichén Itzá for an archaeoastronomy tour. After exploring the Great Pyramid and Ball Court, we transfer to Ek Balam village, where students are welcomed by the community.
The morning begins with Birdwatching in small groups to study local biodiversity. This is followed by a Volunteer Service Project (trail maintenance or school collaboration). The day culminates with a Jarana Dance Workshop, learning the traditional folk dance of the Yucatan.
A morning visit to the Ek Balam Archaeological Site to witness the stunning "Acropolis" and its preserved plaster facades. After a final reflection session, we provide a private transfer back to Cancun, where you’ll have a night at a hotel to enjoy the farewell dinner.
