Embark on an unforgettable 8-day journey through Mexico’s majestic Copper Canyon, a network of vast gorges even deeper than the Grand Canyon. This itinerary is designed for nature lovers and adventure seekers looking for dramatic scenery, indigenous culture, and heart-pumping activities—all without the stress of daily hotel changes. Ride the legendary Chepe Express, marvel at epic canyon vistas, and discover hidden villages nestled in the Sierra Tarahumara.
Arrive in Chihuahua City, a vibrant capital blending colonial heritage and revolutionary history. After airport pickup, check in at your hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner of northern Mexican cuisine. Depending on arrival time, stroll the main plaza or visit the Casa de Pancho Villa for a first look at the region’s cultural legacy.
Today’s tour dives deeper into the charm of Chihuahua. Visit the Quinta Gameros Museum, a French-inspired mansion filled with art and history. Explore the murals of the Palacio de Gobierno, then head to the Nombre de Dios caves for a brief underground nature excursion. Free time in the evening to dine or relax.
Board the Chepe Express, one of the world’s most scenic trains, and watch as desert plains turn into pine-covered canyons. Arrive in Divisadero, home to breathtaking views of the Copper Canyon. In the afternoon, get your first taste of adventure at the Copper Canyon Adventure Park.
Spend a full day exploring the canyon rim. Start with a zipline ride or cable car across the gorge, then visit local Rarámuri (Tarahumara) artisans and trails along the canyon edge. Optional hike to a nearby village or extended zipline circuit for thrill-seekers.
After breakfast, continue the journey on the Chepe Express to Bahuichivo, then transfer to Cerocahui, a peaceful village surrounded by pine forest and vineyards. Visit the Cerro del Gallego viewpoint, offering epic vistas of the Urique Canyon, the deepest in the Copper Canyon system.
Enjoy the stillness of Cerocahui. Visit a local Jesuit boarding school for Rarámuri girls and take a nature walk or horseback ride through the nearby forest. Optional wine tasting or local cooking experience in the evening.
Descend toward the Pacific coast on the last leg of the Chepe Express, arriving in El Fuerte, a charming colonial town in Sinaloa. Wander cobblestone streets, visit the town plaza, and hear the legends of El Zorro. Enjoy a final celebratory dinner.
After breakfast, transfer to Los Mochis International Airport (2.5 hrs) for your flight home or optional beach extension in Mazatlán.
