Tour Plan

Day 1 Arrival, Canyon Views & Lacquer Traditions

Begin your journey at Tuxtla Gutiérrez Airport, where you’ll head straight to a scenic boat tour through the majestic Sumidero Canyon. Afterward, return to Tuxtla to visit the Marimba Museum, where you’ll learn about the evolution and cultural impact of this iconic instrument. In the evening, enjoy a vibrant marimba performance at the Marimba Park, a beloved local tradition where families gather to celebrate music and community.

Day 2 Lacquerware & Parachico Masks

Start your day heading to Chiapa de Corzo, one of Chiapas' most emblematic artisan towns. Visit the Lacquerware Museum, where you'll discover the delicate techniques used in traditional Chiapaneco decorative arts. Then, participate in a hands-on mask-making session at Casa Morales, where master artisan Óscar Morales shares the process of crafting the iconic Parachico masks. In the afternoon, transfer to San Cristóbal de las Casas, the cultural heart of the highlands. Enjoy a guided orientation walk through its colonial streets and artisan corners.

Day 3 Indigenous Textiles & Amatenango Ceramics

Begin your day with a visit to the Tzotzil village of San Juan Chamula, home to one of the most fascinating churches in Mexico. Inside, you’ll witness a unique fusion of indigenous and Catholic practices: pine needles cover the floor, candles of various colors burn low, and locals engage in traditional healing rituals blending ancient belief systems. Continue to nearby Zinacantán to observe intricate embroidery and textiles. Participate in a hands-on embroidery workshop with local women artisans. Then, head to Amatenango del Valle, the only town in Chiapas renowned for its clay crafts, where you’ll witness live demonstrations of ceramic creation and design. Return to San Cristóbal for a visit to the Santo Domingo Church and the surrounding artisan market.

Day 4 Artistic Landscapes – Lakes & Waterfalls

Venture out on a scenic day trip to explore the Montebello Lakes, famous for their shifting blue and green tones. Then continue to El Chiflón waterfalls, where the powerful Velo de Novia cascade creates a dramatic natural setting. The day offers opportunities for landscape sketching, photography, or simply taking in the natural artistry of Chiapas. Return to San Cristóbal for a relaxing evening.

Day 5 Amber Jewelry & Coffee Craft

Discover the world of Chiapas amber with a visit to a local amber jewelry workshop. Learn how this ancient fossilized resin is polished and turned into glowing ornaments. Before your afternoon activities, visit the iconic Na Bolom Cultural Center and Museum, a historic house dedicated to preserving the art, culture, and legacy of Chiapas’ indigenous peoples. Explore its impressive textile room, photo archives, and ceremonial artifacts, all housed in the former residence of anthropologist Gertrude Duby Blom. This museum offers deep insight into the creativity and resilience of the Tzotzil and Tzeltal cultures. Then visit a specialty coffee roastery, where you’ll follow the bean’s journey from mountain to mug, with a tasting of local varieties. Enjoy a final walk around San Cristóbal's vibrant artisan corridors and boutiques.

Day 6 Toniná Temples & Cultural Transfer to Palenque

Depart early to explore the less-visited but majestic Toniná archaeological site, with towering pyramids and striking stonework. Then continue toward Palenque. En route, visit Misol-Ha waterfall, where you can feel the jungle’s pulse and enjoy nature photography. Arrive in Palenque in the late afternoon and check in to your hotel surrounded by tropical greenery.

Day 7 Palenque Ruins & Watercolor Jungle

Begin very early with an in-depth visit to the Palenque ruins, one of the most artistic expressions of Mayan architecture. Admire carved stelae, temples, and jungle-covered buildings that speak of Chiapas’ ancient creativity. After this impressive visit, head to the stunning waterfalls of Agua Azul and, time permitting, Roberto Barrios falls, where the turquoise waters invite you to reflect, sketch, or simply soak in the natural beauty.

Day 8 Farewell Transfer

After breakfast, take a scenic transfer to Villahermosa Airport for your departure. If time allows, we recommend a brief visit to La Venta Park Museum, home to Olmec art and one of the region’s best outdoor sculpture collections.
