Welcome to Merida! Upon your arrival at the airport of your election (Merida City International Airport (MID) or Cancun International Airport) you will meet your tour leader and you will be transferred to your local homestay in Merida to meet your host family and have dinner. You will have a free night to rest. Get ready, your journey is about to begin!*If your flight arrives at Cancun airport, please contact us.
Your adventure will begin in the Cenotes of Santa Barbara. The cenotes are sinkholes where underground rivers break through the limestone crust of the earth. For Mayas, they represent the doorway to the spiritual underworld. You will get on a horse drawn wagon, to visit and swim the beautiful and clear cenotes.
The transportation will wait for you early to go to the Mayan archaeological site of Uxmal, the "three times-built city". In Uxmal you will visit the 115 feet height "Pyramid of the Magician", the impressive "Governor's house", a wonder of the ancient world for its precision and architectonic beauty. Then you will head off to the Chocolate Museum where you will learn about the story of chocolate. After your visit, you will be transferred to San Antonio Mulix.
The service learning activities begin today by visiting a small town called San Antonio Mulix. In this village students will find a paradise in the Mayan jungle and wonderful cenotes. Activities could include painting, gardening, cooking, among other workshops. In the afternoon you will visit one of the two cenotes surrounding the area. After that, you will be transfer back to Merida.
Today you will go back San Antonio Mulix to continue with your volunteering activities inside the community. After that, you will visit another cenote nearby the village. You will have time to swim in fresh waters. Then, you will be transfer back to Merida where you will have free time to be with your host family.
Today you will visit Celestun, home of the biggest settlement of the Pink Flamingo in the continent. Today you will go to the Natural Reserve and take a boat ride to learn about the local wildlife and the importance of mangroves in the region. You will have time to swim and relax at the beach after lunch. In the afternoon you will return to Merida.
Today you will visit a public school where you will have the opportunity to learn about the public education in Mexico, work on a service learning project and have some time to exchange experiences with the local students. After your volunteer service, you will be transferred to Progreso where you will enjoy free time at the beach.
This morning, you will visit a second elementary school where you will help the students. When the activities are finished, you will be transferred to Playa del Carmen. On the road, you will be able to visit one of the World 7 Wonders: the famous site of Chichen Itza. This important center combines majesty and nature. A guide will explain the splendid Castle and share with you the vast knowledge the Mayas used to have about the cosmos, math and science. There, you will find the biggest ball game court of the Mayan world. After your visit, you will continue to Playa del Carmen to spend the night.
Today you will enjoy the day relaxing by the beach or visiting the famous 5th Avenue, where you can find all kinds of shops and discover great places to find souvenirs, eat authentic Mexican snacks and enjoy a great Mexican sunset on your last day in Mexico.
Today, you will be transferred to Cancun International Airport (MID) to board your flight back home. You will return with last memories of exotic landscapes, a new language experience, ancient cultures, and a wealth of new friends! Hasta pronto Mexico!
